Each year, Out Magazine<\/a> honors 100 LGBTQ change-makers for their achievements, accomplishments, and impact on culture and society.<\/p>\n

Out’s Out100<\/em> is a prestigious compilation of the year’s most impactful and influential LGBTQ people and the honorees came together this week for a night to remember in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Kicking off the night was comedian Margaret Cho <\/strong>with a passionate speech about queer youth saying, \u201cThere was a spike, 700%, for teen suicide hotlines amongst gay youth. […] It is so upsetting so we have to protect the youth. To do that we have to look happy all the time because gay kids will see you so you have to stand tall and stand proud and look happy [and] they will realize they will be able to grow up.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the event, actresses and singers Cynthia Erivo<\/strong> and Sheryl Lee Ralph<\/strong> both received awards for their commitment to the community.<\/p>\n

Accepting The Advocate of The Year Award, Abbott Elementary’s <\/em>Sheryl Lee Ralph\u00a0<\/strong>shared, \u201cI am a believer in the power of unity. The world may try to divide us, but our strength has always been in our ability to stand together, to lift one another, and to remind each other that love \u2014 at its core \u2014 is unstoppable.\u201d The award was presented to her by her Abbott Elementary\u00a0<\/i>co-stars\u00a0Chris Perfetti<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Lisa Ann Walter<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Later in the evening,\u00a0Wicked <\/em>star Cynthia Erivo, <\/strong>who recieved the Icon of the Year Award, <\/span>addressed the crowd and closed out the evening by saying, \u201cNow, I should let you get on, you deserve to enjoy this night and according to queer media, I have been all over your social media, at least that\u2019s what I\u2019ve heard and I don\u2019t want you to grow too tired of me, there\u2019s a part two on the way, and we really need to hold space for that and feel the power in that,\u201d referring to her viral interview with journalist Tracy E. Gilchrist.<\/b><\/p>\n
