The Advocate reports, \u201cOn Saturday, Charleston [SC] resident Ely Murray-Quick walked into an Ulta store and spotted Mace in the skin care aisle. He asked a straightforward question: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.advocate.com\/news\/nancy-mace-confronts-gay-man\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Would she be holding an actual town hall<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> any time soon? She responded by filming him, shouting \u201cF**k you,\u201d and later posting the video on social media, framing Murray-Quick\u2014a gay small-business owner\u2014as an aggressor. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/XbN4P\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the video she shared<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which has since been viewed nearly 7 million times, shows Murray-Quick standing calmly at a distance, never threatening her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014Multiple times used an anti-transgender slur in social media posts and in video: in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepNancyMace\/status\/1864452122001154292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on December 4, 2024, following public demonstrations outside <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.them.us\/story\/supreme-court-gender-affirming-care-oral-arguments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Supreme Court<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that morning; in a video after trans activists including Raquel Willis and Chelsea Manning <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.them.us\/story\/raquel-willis-chelsea-manning-others-arrested-trans-solidarity-capitol-bathroom-sit-in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">staged a bathroom sit-in protest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and were arrested; in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NancyMace\/status\/1864741076432552430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in which she called the activists \u201ctr*nny protesters\u201d; in a post writing \u201c[t]he tr*nnies came, they saw, and they did not conquer during their protest\u201d; and a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NancyMace\/status\/1864864992702431656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in which Mace complained about X site moderation that read, in part, \u201cA man&#8217;s mental health issue isn&#8217;t my problem.\u201d Some posts contain a moderation warning from X that noted Mace had \u201cviolated the X Rules about hateful conduct\u201d but that moderators had \u201cdetermined that it may be in the public\u2019s interest for the post to remain accessible.\u201d While X applied the limited visibility labels to the posts, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advocate.com\/politics\/nancy-mace-transphobia-meta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mace\u2019s corollary posts on her Instagram<\/a> accounts have remained unmitigated. For more information on the defamatory language, see the GLAAD glossary of terms: <a href=\"https:\/\/glaad.org\/reference\/trans-terms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transgender<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/glaad.org\/rep-mace-targets-rep-elect-sarah-mcbride-with-anti-trans-resolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Introduced a resolution<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that seeks to bar transgender women from using women\u2019s restrooms in the U.S. Capitol, stating that the resolution was in response to the election of Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first out transgender person elected to Congress. In media appearances about the resolution Mace repeatedly misgendered McBride and baselessly framed her actions as protective of women and girls. There is no evidence that transgender people pose a threat in restrooms. The resolution seeks to bar both House members and employees from \u201cusing single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex [sic].\u201d \u201cBiological sex\u201d is not an accurate nor a scientific term, but is used by opponents of transgender people to dehumanize them and deny their equal access to society. There is no data of any kind to support the claim that inclusive bathrooms undermine anyone\u2019s safety. Transgender people are also several times <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salon.com\/2023\/06\/06\/criminologists-baseless-anti-trans-claims-are-fueling-adoption-of-harmful-laws_partner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more likely to be the victims<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of violent crimes than those who are not transgender.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014Her claims that she supports protecting women and girls conflict with her public stance with her own colleagues accused of rape and assault. Rep. Mace <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/m.facebook.com\/RepNancyMace\/photos\/three-years-ago-we-shook-up-congress-with-the-states-reform-actcommon-sense-cann\/1003699781769232\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">endorsed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the nomination of her former House colleague <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/glaad.org\/gap\/matt-gaetz\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matt Gaetz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Attorney General (he has since withdrawn his nomination), despite accusations that Gaetz had sex with underage girls, showed photos of women he had sex with to colleagues on the House floor, and accusations that Gaetz participated in sex trafficking. Mace also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/nancy-mace-defends-support-trump-after-found-liable\/story?id=107964612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">refused<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to speak out against president-elect Donald Trump even after he was found liable for raping E. Jean Carroll, has been credibly accused of sexual assault by more than a dozen women, and has admitted to forcing himself on women. Mace\u2019s former communications director, Natalie Johnson, tweeted that Mace\u2019s actions were motivated by attention-seeking, not safety: \u201cIf you think this bill is about protecting women and not simply a ploy to get on Fox News, you&#8217;ve been fooled,\u201d she <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nataliejohnsonn\/status\/1859337619341181042\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wrote.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/nancy-mace-anti-trans-lgbtq-sarah-mcbride-rcna180884\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the Respect for Marriage Act in 2022, which aimed to protect same-sex marriage at the federal level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014In 2021 positioned herself as a supporter of LGBTQ rights. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/1403136\/exclusive-rep-nancy-mace-on-why-she-supports-lgbt-rights-religious-liberty-compromise-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cI strongly support LGBTQ rights and equality. No one should be discriminated against,\u201d and expressed connections to the LGBTQ community through personal relationships.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/nancy-mace-anti-trans-lgbtq-sarah-mcbride-rcna180884\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Co-sponsored<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Serving Our LGBTQ Veterans Act (2021), which would establish a Center for LGBTQ Veterans within the Department of Veterans Affairs. It also aims to guarantee and protect VA benefits for LGBTQ veterans who were discharged from the Armed Forces due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
