Since the lists first unveiling, the <a href=\"\/20-under-20\/\" rel=\"noopener\">campaign<\/a> continues to shine a light on a new batch of 20 young LGBTQ change makers each year \u2013 pioneers and activists across entertainment, politics, academia, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teenvogue.com\/gallery\/glaad-20-under-20-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4th annual list<\/a> featured groundbreaking changemakers like musicians <strong><span class=\"GallerySlideCaptionHedText-iqjOmM jwPuvZ\">Evann McIntosh <\/span><\/strong><span class=\"GallerySlideCaptionHedText-iqjOmM jwPuvZ\">and<\/span><strong><span class=\"GallerySlideCaptionHedText-iqjOmM jwPuvZ\"> Isaac Dunbar, <\/span><\/strong><span class=\"GallerySlideCaptionHedText-iqjOmM jwPuvZ\">content creators <\/span><strong><span class=\"GallerySlideCaptionHedText-iqjOmM jwPuvZ\">Zachary Willmore, <\/span><\/strong><span class=\"GallerySlideCaptionHedText-iqjOmM jwPuvZ\"><strong>Reuben De Maid,<\/strong> and <strong>Brooklynne Webb<\/strong>, actors <strong>Noah Schnapp<\/strong> and <strong>Luke Islam,\u00a0<\/strong>and the organizers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teenvogue.com\/story\/inside-the-trans-youth-prom-in-washington-dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trans Youth Prom<\/a>, just to name a few.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the year since the 4th list was published, members of the class of 2023 have gone on to do incredible things with the platforms they\u2019ve created. They served as the race and diversity beat reporter at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailycal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Californian<\/a><i>, <\/i>where they continue to bring reliable stories from diverse perspectives to Berkeley\u2019s paper of record.<\/p>\n<p>Umeki-Mart\u00ednez is in their third year at UC Berkeley studying Sociology and Chicano Studies while also serving as a senior staff writer at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailycal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Californian<\/a> and a staff writer for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailycal.org\/weekender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Weekender<\/a>, the Daily Cal&#8217;s culture magazine.<\/p>\n<p>On top of all this hard work, they are also a staff writer for <a href=\"https:\/\/berkeleybside.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berkeley B-Side<\/a>, their school&#8217;s premier music magazine! They share that, &#8220;I&#8217;m just working and going to school! Unfortunately, despite being assured King would be safe to attend the competition in the notoriously anti-LGBTQ country, government officials arrived and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/story\/news\/local\/2023\/02\/03\/north-bergen-student-abu-dhabi-fashion-contest\/69868511007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demanded that CJ be barred from the competition<\/a>\u00a0as UAE law prohibits men from wearing \u201cwomen\u2019s clothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-836968 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"653\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-450x253.jpg 450w, https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9-1200x675.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/14095321\/Untitled-design-9.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite this setback, this didn&#8217;t stop King from living his truth. From there, King went on to appear on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QFXgVSFQv2c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Good Morning America<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>where he was given the opportunity to show off the look he was denied the opportunity to in Dubai. The look was called \u201cNightingale,\u201d and was made entirely of donated medical waste products and discarded pool insulation and was made in honor of the healthcare workers who risked their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, King has been making major moves in the fashion world. He had the opportunity to work with the MarcoMarco team at their Dreamland X Marco Marco 20th year anniversary at New York Fashion Week earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Fashion without Boundaries: Marco Marco&#039;s Revolutionary NYFW Show in Central Park | Marco Marco\" width=\"788\" height=\"443\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L7ZDX5IE6tw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>King also got to work with LA based designer <strong>Marco Morante<\/strong> first hand, on multiple garments, where he was taught different sewing techniques by Morante and NYC designer <strong>Domino Couture<\/strong>. He also got to go through the incredible <strong>Todd Oldham<\/strong>&#8216;s archival, with him by his side. The four teens joined forces in 2023 to host the most inclusive prom ever at the nation&#8217;s capitol. Queer and trans teens and allies from all over the country came together for this celebration of love and acceptance during\u00a0<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/06\/politics\/anti-lgbtq-plus-state-bill-rights-dg\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/06\/politics\/anti-lgbtq-plus-state-bill-rights-dg\/index.html\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/06\/politics\/anti-lgbtq-plus-state-bill-rights-dg\/index.html&quot;}\">a year which has seen more anti-LGBTQ legislation introduced than ever before<\/a>. The night was described as a \u201ccelebratory manifestation of trans people\u2019s beautiful, expansive communities, and their right to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the students are back to school, where they continue to make change.<\/p>\n<p>McFerrin-Hogan shared that they recently joined a youth gun advocacy organization and are hoping to attend a performing arts high school next year! They also recently were cast in a production of\u00a0<em>Little Shop of Horrors\u00a0<\/em>in Dallas!<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"ConsumerMarketingUnitThemedWrapper-iUTMTf jssHut consumer-marketing-unit consumer-marketing-unit--article-mid-content\" role=\"presentation\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div class=\"consumer-marketing-unit__slot consumer-marketing-unit__slot--article-mid-content consumer-marketing-unit__slot--in-content\">Libby Gonzales has been busy as well. She recently appeared on\u00a0<strong>Raquel Willis&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iheart.com\/podcast\/1119-queer-chronicles-156761811\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queer Chronicles<\/a> where she participated in a roundtable discussion where trans activists had the opportunity to share their own experiences, insights, advice and solidarity.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gonzales also co-chaired the youth steering committee for the second annual <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasvoice.com\/a-homecoming-for-all-ages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rainbow Homecoming in Dallas<\/a>, and has been interning at a t-shirt shop where she designed her first shirt! The shirt sales served as a fundraiser for the <a href=\"https:\/\/blacktrans.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Trans Advocacy Coalition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Libby recently appeared in a Vice documentary, telling the stories of trans youth fighting for their right to live in Texas. She caught the media&#8217;s attention when she was only 10 years old when a photo of her holding a sign reading \u201cI\u2019m the scary transgender person the media warned you about,\u201d widely circulated the web in 2017. From there, her work as an activist was only just beginning. From appearing on <em>Good Morning America\u00a0<\/em>to co-writing a book called <a href=\"https:\/\/akidsco.com\/products\/a-kids-book-about-being-inclusive\"><em>A Kids Book about Being Inclusive<\/em><\/a>, the teen is only just getting started.<\/p>\n<p>Bruesehoff shared that she is applying to colleges and plans to study Public Policy to continue her advocacy work.<\/p>\n<p>This past summer Bruesehoff attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elca.org\/gathering-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Evangelical Lutheran Church in America&#8217;s Youth Gathering<\/a> as an emcee for 16,500 high school youth. &#8220;At 11 years old, I spoke at this event in 2018 sharing my story as transgender young person. It was amazing to return and be able to be this kind of representation for Lutheran teenagers from all over the country reminding them that God doesn&#8217;t make mistakes and that transgender and Christian aren&#8217;t mutually exclusive identities,&#8221; As a student and activist, Blancaflor is committed to giving back to his community.<\/p>\n<p>This past summer, Blancaflor worked as the Summer Outreach Research Assistant for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/research\/2024-national-school-climate-survey?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAjeW6BhBAEiwAdKltMnFes-O3Owrlwd6KoGHtr9Pg9EL2Dye1cKm-jouWZ-revCu0vPy73hoC6ZAQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GLSEN\u2019s National Student Climate Survey<\/a>. &#8220;This was a valuable experience as this survey is crucial research for how we can work to better the experiences of LGBTQ+ students,&#8221; he shared with GLAAD.<\/p>\n<p>He now works at a drop-in resource center for unhoused youth and young adults. &#8220;I am able to directly support these young people access necessary resources such as food, healthcare, bus passes, etc. Many of our youth are LGBTQ+, disabled, and people and color,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, I am mostly focused on finishing up my Bachelors of Arts degree in Women&#8217;s Gender Sexuality Studies and Speech Hearing Sciences at the Ohio State University. The bill bans life-saving healthcare for transgender people under the age of 18, despite the wishes of parents and families, and recommendations from their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/aapnews\/news\/25340\/AAP-reaffirms-gender-affirming-care-policy?autologincheck=redirected\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trusted health providers<\/a>.
