LGBTQ people can and do become pregnant and need reproductive health care. The same activists pushing anti-abortion laws also fought and failed against marriage equality and against LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The 2024 results show overwhelming support for reproductive freedom:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arizona\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/arizona\/?r=83101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Proposition 139<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which enshrined the right to abortion into the state constitution, passed by a greater than 20 point margin.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colorado\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/colorado\/?r=83183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amendment 79<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which added abortion access to the state constitution and repealed a provision limiting public funding for the procedure, passed by a 23 point spread.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maryland voters delivered the most decisive verdict, passing its proposed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/maryland\/?r=83125\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">constitutional amendment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by a 50 point margin.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar to Missouri, voters in New York ignored anti-trans fear mongering to pass a sweeping equal rights <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/new-york\/?r=83165\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">amendment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the state constitution, securing protections for pregnant people and reproductive health care that include anti-discrimination protections on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/montana\/?r=83129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Montana\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> abortion measure passed by 15 points.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nevada\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/nevada\/?r=83081\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Question 6<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> passed 63% to 37%.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ballot measures in Florida and Nebraska failed to pass, but faced different challenges. Florida\u2019s measure needed 60% of the vote to advance\u2014it received <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/projects\/election-results-2024\/florida\/?r=83145\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">57%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, still a majority of the vote, and in spite of a furious and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/florida-amendment-4-abortion-rights-fails-desantis-1235153569\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shady effort<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Gov. Ron <\/span><a href=\"\/gap\/ron-desantis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeSantis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that included using appointees and taxpayer resources to fight the measure. Florida\u2019s draconian and dangerous six week ban remains in effect. Activists in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/election-2024-nebraska-abortion-marijuana-schools-6d09bba809b95cfdb8572034b578fcde\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nebraska<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> included a separate competing measure seemingly designed to confuse voters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voters who approved abortion access measures in Colorado, Maryland, and New York also voted for Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Maryland voted in Angela Alsobrooks to the U.S. Senate, who will <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/19thnews.org\/2024\/11\/us-senate-history-black-women-angela-alsobrooks-lisa-blunt-rochester\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">join<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Delaware\u2019s Lisa Blunt Rochester as the first Black female Senators to serve simultaneously.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tickets were split in the remaining states, where voters who approved expanded protections for abortion access failed to hold Donald Trump accountable for nominating Supreme Court justices who overturned<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Roe<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and jeopardized patient lives across the country. Donald Trump has also been found liable for sexual assault and defamation against E. Jean Carroll, and credibly accused of sexual assault by more than a dozen women.
