the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards opens on <strong>Monday, September 23, 2024 at 9am ET\/6am PT and closes on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 6pm ET\/3pm PT.<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--medium RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph\">Submissions are $250. <strong><u>Submissions received after Friday, November 22 are considered late and will incur a $150 fee ($400 total) until Friday, December 20<\/u>. <\/strong>Submissions received after that will not be accepted. Special exceptions will be made for materials that are published, broadcasted, etc. after December 1.<\/div><h3><strong>What is the eligibility period for submissions?<\/strong><\/h3><p>Projects submitted for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards must have been published, released, or broadcast in the United States between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.<\/p><h3 style=\"font-family: var(--text-h-font, inherit); font-weight: var(--title-fw-bold);\"><strong>What do I need to provide for my submission(s)?<\/strong><\/h3><p>See below for a general breakdown \u2013 please note materials needed varies by category:<\/p><div><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Basic Information<br \/><\/strong><\/span>Title of Project:<br \/>Outlet or Distributor:<br \/>Budget, Number of Screens Played, and Other Distribution Plans*:<br \/>Any relevant information our submissions team when determining nomination eligibility, including LGBTQ content, impact, etc:**<\/p><p><em>*This is only required for Film &#8211; Limited Release<br \/><\/em>**<i>There is no word count limit for this section, but we advise 150 &#8211; 300 words with any relevant information for our submissions team that would help determine nomination eligibility, including LGBTQ content, impact, etc.<\/i><\/p><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Submission Materials<br \/><\/strong><\/span><strong>For film\/TV\/video content:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>There is a field in the form to upload attachments, including video files. However, we require that all media projects which appeared <strong>before<\/strong> December 1 to be submitted by the deadline.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"TypographyPresentation TypographyPresentation--m RichText3-paragraph--withVSpacingNormal RichText3-paragraph\">If you have a project that you know will appear between December 1 and December 31, please contact GLAAD at <a class=\"PrimaryLink BaseLink\" href=\"mailto:submissions@glaad.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">submissions@glaad.org<\/a> to make special arrangements for submission.<\/div><h3><strong>What media projects are eligible for submission?<\/strong><\/h3><p><a href=\"\/mediaawards\/36\/categories\">Click here<\/a> for a list of categories and the eligibility parameters for each category.<\/p><h3><strong>Who can submit a project for nomination?<\/strong><\/h3><p>Anyone can submit a project for nomination.\u00a0If you think something should be considered for nomination, <a href=\"\/mediaawards\/36\/submissions\/\">you are welcome to submit it<\/a>.<\/p><h3><strong>Must a media project be submitted in order to be nominated?<\/strong><\/h3><p><em>Mainstream Media \u2013 <\/em>GLAAD monitors mainstream media on a year-round basis as part of our work to fight defamation and promote fair, accurate, and inclusive LGBTQ images in the media.\u00a0This monitoring provides a pool of potential nominees for GLAAD to review.\u00a0 GLAAD may choose to nominate LGBTQ images from these media outlets \u2013 even if the image is not submitted.<\/p><p><em>Media Outlets Created By and For an LGBTQ\u00a0Audience<\/em> \u2013 GLAAD does not monitor media created by and for the LGBTQ community \u2013 therefore we do not generate a pool of potential nominees. Therefore <strong>all<\/strong> media outlets which are created by and for the LGBTQ community <strong>must<\/strong> submit their programming and journalism in order for it to be eligible for nomination.<\/p><h3><strong>What scoring criteria does GLAAD use to judge potential nominees?<\/strong><\/h3><p>All media projects with LGBTQ images are evaluated using four criteria:<\/p><p>1) Fair, Accurate and Inclusive Representations \u2013 Rather than portraying the LGBTQ community in broad stereotypes, the project deals with the characters or themes in a fair, accurate, and multi-dimensional manner.\u00a0 (This is different than a \u201cpositive role model.\u201d)\u00a0 Inclusive means that the diversity of the LGBTQ community is represented.\u00a0 This includes economic, geographic, and political diversity, as well as people of color, seniors, differently abled people, etc.<\/p><p>2) Boldness and Originality \u2013 The project breaks new ground by exploring LGBTQ subject matter in non-traditional ways and handles the LGBTQ content in a fresh and original manner.\u00a0 Is this project cutting-edge?<\/p><p>3) Impact \u2013 The project impacts society in a significant way.\u00a0 Does this project dramatically increase the cultural dialogue about LGBTQ issues?\u00a0 Or, does this project reach an audience that is not regularly exposed to LGBTQ images and issues?<\/p><p>4) Overall Quality \u2013 A project of extremely high quality adds impact and significance to the images and issues portrayed.\u00a0 Fair, accurate and inclusive images can sometimes be weakened when they are part of a poor-quality project.<\/p><h3><strong>What is the \u201cAdditional Information\u201d section for?<\/strong><\/h3><p>The \u201cAdditional Information\u201d section is for Budget, number of screens played, and other distribution plans\/info to determine wide versus limited theatrical eligibility. You can also add any other pertinent info for the Submissions team to be aware of. This is usually a description of the film&#8217;s LGBTQ content and impact.<\/p><h3><strong>When are the nominees announced?<\/strong><\/h3><p>The nominees will be announced in early 2024.
