\u2014<\/span>Preached<\/span><\/a> in a sermon in 2017 at the Love & Liberty Fellowship Church in Houston that people who engage in homosexual acts are \u201cperverted\u201d and said they had been deceived by the \u201chomosexual spirit.\u201d She also warned that people who \u201cplay with\u201d homosexual sin would \u201cdie from it.\u201d Burrell <\/span>described<\/span><\/a> sex acts and said, \u201cThe spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women, and it\u2019s caused a stain on the body of Christ.\u201d <\/span>She said<\/span><\/a>, \u201cTo every person who is dealing with the homosexual spirit, that has it, I love you and God loves you but God hates the sin in you and me. Anything that is against the nature of God.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2014<\/span>Publicly speculated<\/span><\/a> about the now deceased Bishop Eddie Long\u2019s HIV status: \u201cI\u2019ve never seen anything as heartbreaking as watching Bishop Eddie Long go down to nothing. It is an embarrassment to the Church \u2018cause nobody would be saying that you have AIDS unless a homosexual man didn\u2019t come out and reveal what you did behind closed doors \u2026 they have yet to deny it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2014In response to considerable criticism, Burrell <\/span>said<\/span><\/a> that she makes \u201cno excuses or apologies\u201d for the sermon, adding “I love you, and God loves you, but he hates the sin in you and me.” Shortly after the video of the sermon surfaced, The Ellen DeGeneres Show <\/em><\/span>canceled<\/span><\/a> Burrell’s scheduled appearance, as did the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music event, where she was removed as an honoree. Ellen said<\/a>, \u201cI didn\u2019t feel that was good of me to have her on the show to give her a platform after she was saying things about me\u2026 There\u2019s no room for any kind of prejudice in 2017, and moving on. There\u2019s no room.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2014<\/span>Blamed<\/span><\/a> unspecified \u201cenemies\u201d for posting portions of her sermon.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2014The New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators <\/span>canceled<\/span><\/a> an appearance by Gospel singer, Kim Burrell, citing her past controversial comments on the LGBTQ community.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2014<\/span>Burrell\u2019s radio show was canceled<\/span><\/a>. The show, \u201cBridging the Gap,\u201d was broadcast on Texas Southern University\u2019s KTSU-FM. TSU did not address the controversy in their decision, saying in a statement released to the media only that \u201cThe Kim Burrell show is no longer airing as part of KTSU Radio programming.”<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2014Told<\/a> a woman in the congregation where she was performing to stop singing along with Burrell, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s a solo. God\u2019s using me. Don\u2019t sing with me right now,\u201d and \u201cI\u2019m singing alone now. Ma\u2019am, ma\u2019am, with that mask\u2026 Let that mask work for you. I\u2019m singing alone. I\u2019ll call you when I\u2019m ready.\u201d She later sold merchandise based on her admonition, \u201cLet That Mask Work for You.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014Faced backlash after making controversial remarks during a church appearance, where she denigrated poor congregants as “broke” and “ugly.” <\/span>Blackenterprise.com<\/span><\/a> reports, \u201c<\/span>She also told the church to invite her back if they could afford her, noting that she wasn\u2019t \u2018that expensive.\u2019 Burrell also jokingly told the church to use their PPP loan.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2014<\/span>Admonished<\/span><\/a> Black women\u2019s hygiene in a sermon saying, \u201c<\/span>Ladies, it\u2019s time for you to stand up and get you some money. Get a job. Quit thinking you\u2019re so wonderful with that dirty thong on, thinking some brother gon\u2019 come in your life and make you a princess, and you ain\u2019t living a dime\u2019s worth of nothing.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
