Critiqued studies<\/a> that refuted the social contagion theory for the increase in American you identifying as transgender and found that using puberty blockers lowered suicide risk for transgender youth. No evidence for such contagion exists in a reputable study.<\/p>\n

Said<\/a> her transgender patients \u201care not going to college\u201d and \u201care not blossoming\u201d even though \u201cthey\u2019re their true selves.\u201d (22:37)<\/p>\n

Co-author on an article<\/a>\u00a0published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy<\/em> that argued that the \u201csocial, medical and surgical interventions\u201d involved in gender-affirming care are based on \u201cvery low-quality evidence.\u201d The authors thanks SEGM staff for providing \u201cgrant and bibliographic support.\u201d SEGM is an activist non-profit organization that is known for\u00a0mischaracterizing standards of care for transgender youth<\/a> and engaging in political lobbying using misinformation which contradicts the evidence base around transgender healthcare.<\/p>\n

In response to a February 18, 2022 interpretation of state law by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton<\/a> (impeached by the state House and awaiting trial<\/a> by the Senate) that asserted certain medical procedures constitute child abuse as defined in the Texas Family Code, the Yale School of Medicine<\/a> writes that the \u201cAG Opinion greatly exaggerates the extent to which adolescent gender dysphoria abates without treatment, and it repeats discredited claims [by the Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine] that there is a novel wave of rapid-onset dysphoria among today\u2019s teens.\u201d Yale School of Medicine adds that \u201cAG Opinion does not cite reputable scientific evidence. Instead, it cites a biased source\u2014the website of the so-called [SEGM]. SEGM is not a recognized scientific organization,\u201d and \u201cbias\u2026 infuses its medical claims. The SEGM website badly mischaracterizes the underlying source that it cites for the 61-98% figure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Doctors and researchers representing organizations like SEGM And American College of Pediatricians \u201cHave effectively accomplished for gender dysphoria what anti-vaxxer medical professionals have sought to do for their cause,\u201d reports Buzzfeed<\/a>. \u201cYet while opposition in the medical field has been overwhelming, it has not been unanimous. A small number of highly controversial doctors and researchers have been pushing these anti-trans bills. Representing organizations with seemingly professional names like the American College of Pediatricians or the Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine, they have effectively accomplished for gender dysphoria what anti-vaxxer medical professionals have sought to do for their cause: give credence to the notion that no scientific or medical consensus exists regarding the relative safety and efficacy of a given treatment, despite the clear and growing evidence to the contrary.\u201d<\/p>\n
