\u2014In his ruling that Arkansas\u2019s 2021 law banning gender-affirming medical care for minors is\u00a0unconstitutional<\/a>, U.S. District Judge James Moody Jr. cited\u00a0significant problems<\/a>\u00a0with the state\u2019s selected experts:\u00a0\u201cThe Court does not credit the testimony of Professor\u00a0[Mark] Regnerus<\/a>\u00a0and gives it no weight because the Court finds that he lacks the qualifications to offer his opinions and failed to support them.\u201d;\u00a0\u201cDr. [Patrick] Lappert does not meet the requirements under\u00a0Daubert\u00a0<\/em>to give opinions relevant to this case.\u201d; \u201cDr. [Paul] Hruz<\/a> has never treated a patient for gender dysphoria.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014<\/span>Was issued a purchase order<\/a> for $34,800 by Florida\u2019s Agency for Health Care Administration as an \u201cexpert witness\u201d in the state\u2019s effort to ban Medicaid coverage of treatments for transgender people.<\/p>\n

\u2014Board member of Courage International, an organization that promotes chastity for LGBTQ people. <\/span>According<\/a> to the Southern Poverty Law Center, \u201cIts leaders say they do not practice reparative therapy. But the founder, John Harvey, saw homosexuality as pathological, and the organization has long had a 12-step program, based on the similar Alcoholics Anonymous program, that\u2019s meant to help gay people abstain from sex.\u201d He\u2019s listed as the contact<\/a> for the Birmingham chapter.<\/p>\n

\u2013<\/span>Linked<\/a> to the Alliance Defending Freedom<\/a>, an organization that says on its website that it is a \u201cleader in defending religious freedom, free speech, the sanctity of life, parental rights, and God\u2019s design for marriage and family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014<\/span>Said<\/a> of assisted reproductive technology for transgender people who undergo surgery: \u201cBecause they will be told, you have a right to have a child even though you’re having this transgender surgery\u2026Well, that’s the language of slavery, to speak of a person that’s having a right to another person is the language of slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014A North Carolina judge <\/span>excluded<\/a> \u201cin part\u201d Lappert\u2019s expert testimony in a case related to health coverage for gender-affirming care noting that \u201cLappert is not qualified to render opinions about the diagnosis of gender dysphoria, its possible causes, the efficacy of the DSM, the efficacy of puberty blocking medication or hormone treatments, the appropriate standard of informed consent for mental health professionals or endocrinologists, or any opinion on the non-surgical treatments obtained by Plaintiffs\u2026 Lappert is not a psychiatrist, psychologist, or mental health professional, nor has he ever diagnosed a patient with gender dysphoria.
