\u2014Sponsored Florida\u2019s SB1834<\/a> discriminatory, anti-LGBTQ bill<\/a>, commonly known as the \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d bill.<\/p>\n

\u2014Sponsored an anti-transgender bill that would have made it a second-degree felony for a health care provider to provide gender-affirming care to minors. \u201cNo parent should be allowed to sterilize, castrate or permanently disfigure a child,\u201d Baxley wrote on Facebook<\/a>. Every major medical association supports<\/a> gender-affirming care as safe and lifesaving.<\/p>\n

\u2014In refusing to repeal<\/a> an unconstitutional an unenforceable law banning adoption for same-sex couples, said \u201cI don\u2019t hate anybody. I don\u2019t want to discriminate against anybody. I\u2019m not phobic, but I simply can\u2019t affirm homosexuality. My compass won\u2019t go there, knowing what I know biblically.\u201d Baxley acknowledged that same-sex adoption could benefit children in need but refused to vote to overturn the law, saying \u201cI could save some kids, but that rationale breaks down in the bigger picture.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014Disparaged LGBTQ parents<\/a>, comparing them to abusive parents and equating having same-sex parents with alcoholism. He said, \u201cI sat an hour and a half with a teacher telling me, well, this child has got serial men coming through the house, this one has two mommies, this one has an abusive father whose home, this has alcoholism, this one has drug abuse. It was a casualty warfare event to hear\u2014just her classroom\u2014how many dysfunctional, atypical\u2014to me\u2014uh, structures are in the way of a kid having a chance to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014Opposed marriage equality<\/a> after the landmark 2003 ruling in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court legalizing same-sex marriage in that state.
