Each year the Austin Independent School District hosts a series of events to highlight \u201cthe district&#8217;s commitment to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment\u201d for LGBTQ students. In a letter to the superintendent of the Austin Independent School District, Paxton wrote, \u201cThe Texas legislature has made it clear that when it comes to sex education, parents\u2014not school districts\u2014are in charge.\u201d \u201cLiberal school districts are aggressively pushing LGBTQ+ views on Texas Kids! All behind parents\u2019 backs! This is immoral and illegal. I will work with and for parents to hold deceptive sexual propagandists and predators accountable,\u201d he wrote in a tweet regarding the letter. The Austin&#8217;s school district said the events will continue despite Paxton\u2019s attack.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Liberal school districts are aggressively pushing LGBTQ+ views on Texas Kids! All behind parents\u2019 backs! This is immoral and illegal.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tI will work with and for parents to hold deceptive sexual propagandists and predators accountable. See my letter to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AustinISD?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@AustinISD<\/a> \u2b07\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WswUrVw0XT\">https:\/\/t.co\/WswUrVw0XT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Attorney General Ken Paxton (@KenPaxtonTX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenPaxtonTX\/status\/1506425186219929608?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 23, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u2014Repeatedly violated Twitter rules about hateful conduct with tweets about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenPaxtonTX\/status\/1504995301479878659\">misgendering<\/a> a transgender woman athlete, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenPaxtonTX\/status\/1504873386341711873\">misgendering<\/a> four star admiral&nbsp;Rachel Levine&nbsp;who is&nbsp;United States assistant secretary for health and calling the misgendering &#8220;Big Tech censorship,&#8221; and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenPaxtonTX\/status\/1504425050140782592\">again misgendering<\/a>&nbsp;Levine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014Baselessly claimed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/opinions\/ken-paxton\/kp-0401\">an opinion memo<\/a> that providing gender-affirming medical care to minors is child abuse under Texas law. Medical care such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and gender-affirming surgeries \u201cmust be halted,\u201d he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/news\/releases\/ag-paxton-declares-so-called-sex-change-procedures-children-and-prescription-puberty-blockers-be\">statement<\/a>. Dr. Walter Bouman, MD, PhD, President of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the world\u2019s leading authority on trans medical care, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.losangelesblade.com\/2022\/02\/22\/texas-attorney-general-labels-trans-youth-healthcare-child-abuse\/\">responded<\/a>: \u201cTargeting trans youth, their parents, and their health care providers for political gain is unconscionable. We strongly denounce this alarmist and misguided opinion which could obstruct access to medically necessary care. It is yet another example of the profound misunderstanding of the conditions under which transgender people live, and a profound lack of compassion for the need for responsible medical care that helps trans people, including trans youth, to thrive and contribute to society.\u201d Paxton\u2019s opinion was met with widespread condemnation from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/03\/01\/texas-ken-paxton-greg-abbott-misinformation-transgender-medical-care\/\">healthcare providers<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/opinion\/editorials\/article\/Editorial-Paxton-Abbott-LGBTQ-trans-youth-Texas-16948475.php\"> local media<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/texas-da-rebuke-abbott-paxton-claims-transgender-care-abuse\/287-d7dc2992-c3a3-441b-9702-1c9292960361\">district attorneys<\/a> who said they would ignore the guidance as it is unconstitutional, disturbing and an \u201cegregious invasion of privacy.\u201d On March 3rd, the Travis County District Court <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ACLUTx\/status\/1499173651823869953?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet\">ordered<\/a> the state to halt an investigation into a trans child&#8217;s parent, who works for the Department of Family and Protective Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/south-texas-el-paso\/news\/2021\/09\/21\/texas-ag-ken-paxton-sues-biden-administration-over-lgbtq-workplace-guidance-\">Sued<\/a> the Biden administration over guidance designed to protect LGBTQ people in the workplace. The guidance, released by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, requires that transgender employees must be permitted to dress in a manner that corresponds to their gender identity and be allowed to use bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers that correspond to their gender identity. In the suit, Paxton writes in a statement that the guidance is \u201cunlawful\u201d and \u201can extreme federal overreach.\u201d The EEOC\u2019s guidance comes as a result of the 2020 U.S. Supreme Court case <em>Bostock v. Clayton County<\/em> in which the court determined that the prohibition on sex discrimination in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) includes employment discrimination against an individual on the basis of sexual orientation or transgender status. Paxton invoked a false libel against transgender people by insisting that \u201cthis illegal guidance puts many women and children at risk.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2020\/01\/29\/ken-paxton-wont-defend-state-agency-gay-marriage\/\">Refused to defend<\/a> a Texas commission after it disciplined a justice of the peace for \u201ccasting doubt on her capacity to act impartially to persons appearing before her as a judge.\u201d Waco judge Dianne Hensley officiates marriages between men and women but, in contravention of the landmark 2015 <em>Obergefell<\/em> decision of the United States Supreme Court, refuses to perform marriages for same-sex couples, and received a <a href=\"https:\/\/media.glaad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/25195054\/hensley17-1572pubwarn111219-987.pdf\">public warning<\/a> from the State Commission on Judicial Conduct, a state agency charged with disciplining Texas judges. Hensley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2019\/12\/17\/waco-judge-sues-after-public-warning-same-sex-marriages\/\">sued<\/a> the commission for religious discrimination, and Paxton, despite being charged with defending state agencies when they are challenged in court, declined to defend the
