\u2014Lied when he tweeted<\/a> that [Wanda Sykes] \u201c\u2026wants kindergarteners to be taught sex education by people other than their parents,\u201d ascribing to her a viewpoint she never espoused when retweeting a clip of Sykes in the opening segment of the 94th Academy Awards. He added \u201cDon\u2019t support Wanda Sykes movies.\u201d In fact, her comments at the Oscars were limited to, \u201cWe\u2019re going to have a great night tonight, and for you people in Florida, we\u2019re going to have a gay night. Gay gay gay!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014Criticized<\/a> the Equality Act, falsely claiming it would grant \u201cspecial rights\u201d to LGBTQ people and is an attack on religion. The Equality Act bans all forms of discrimination against LGBTQ people. It doesn\u2019t give \u201cspecial rights.\u201d The Equality Act also expands protections for religious belief, providing protections for people who are discriminated against because of their religion. Polls<\/a> show Americans in every major faith group overwhelmingly support the Equality Act and its tenets that businesses cannot refuse service to LGBTQ people based on religious objection. Religious-based organizations<\/a> have recognized they can serve LGBTQ people without conflict to their religious beliefs. <\/p>\n

\u2014Touted the launch of an initiative<\/a> that claimed to push for the decriminalization of homosexuality \u201caround the globe.\u201d Advocates for global equality called the effort \u201cnothing more than self-promoting Twitter photos<\/a>\u201d and \u201csmoke and mirrors\u201d<\/a> and noted that LGBTQ discrimination actually increased around the world during the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

\u2014As the Republican National Committee<\/a>\u2019s senior adviser tasked with LGBTQ outreach for Trump\u2019s re-election bid, repeated the egregious lie<\/a> that the Trump administration was \u201cthe most pro-gay president ever\u201d while that same administration was, at the same time seeking to: reject recognition of sexual orientation and gender identity protections<\/a> under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act; fight to the Supreme Court to allow discrimination against LGBTQ workers<\/a>, parents<\/a> and customers<\/a>; ban trans girls and women from participating in sports<\/a>; remove health care protections for transgender Americans<\/a>; eliminate protections for trans students<\/a>; and ban transgender people from serving the military<\/a>. The Washington Post<\/em>\u2019s fact check<\/a> determined Grenell\u2019s claims were \u201cabsurd\u201d and awarded \u201cfour Pinocchios\u201d\u2014the highest rating for lies or \u201cwhoppers.\u201d \u201cTrump is pro-Grenell, but that doesn\u2019t mean his administration is pro-gay, the Post reported.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2014Became a special adviser for national security and foreign policy at the anti-LGBTQ American Center for Law and Justice<\/a>, which was founded by anti-LGBTQ televangelist Pat Robertson<\/a>. <\/p>\n
