\u2014 The college Carlson attended confirms the authenticity of<\/a> Carlson’s 1991 college yearbook entry saying he was a member of the “Jesse Helms Foundation” and the “Dan White Society.” Dan White assassinated gay civil rights pioneer Harvey Milk in 1978. Jesse Helms was one of the most active anti-LGBTQ senators in U.S. history, who said<\/a>  AIDS resulted from \u201cunnatural\u201d and \u201cdisgusting\u201d homosexual behavior, and ran racist campaign ads.<\/p>\n

\u2014- Hosted<\/a> guest who falsely suggested that medical care for trans youth allows people to \u201cbasically molest and abuse children.\u201d Carlson agreed, then falsely claimed trans youth undergo \u201cgenital mutilation and chemical castration.\u201d Gender-affirming medical care is neither mutilation or castration. It is accepted<\/a>, safe<\/a>, effective, and lifesaving<\/a> treatment supported<\/a> by<\/a> every major medical professional organization.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Made multiple false claims<\/a> about gender-affirming care in an interview with Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, who vetoed a bill that bans such care. The legislature overrode the veto to pass the ban into law. “With respect,” Carlson said. “It doesn’t sound like you have studied it very deeply. I mean, this is an emerging field. There’s not a lot of research. But the research that exists suggests the depression and the urge to self-harm and suicide is a component, it’s a side effect of taking these hormones.” Hutchinson met with<\/a> transgender Arkansans who directly experienced and personally explained gender-affirming care and the importance of it. Hutchinson had read and interpreted his state’s bill as a vast government overreach<\/a> into private healthcare decisions. Gender-affirming care is not an emerging field<\/a> in need of more research to study safety and efficacy. The study Carlson cited was about puberty blockers, which have been safely used for decades, not hormone therapy. A 2020 study of puberty blocker usage found they improve mental health outcomes, opposite of what Carlson inferred. Every major professional medical association has come out in support<\/a> of gender-affirming care and against the bills Carlson supports that aim to eliminate it.<\/p>\n

\u2014Hosted<\/a> the author of a book claiming hate crimes are hoaxes, who claimed “more women are now changing gender.” There is no evidence to support this claim. The guest went on to question if society can self-sustain if “30% of men aren’t willing or able to sleep with women, if another 2 or 3% of in particular young women want to modify their bodies so they cannot in most cases have children.”  Carlson responded: “It\u2019s a challenge to the perpetuation of the species is what you\u2019re saying.\u201d There is no evidence to support that LGBTQ people are challenging the perpetuation of the species. Between 2 million and 3.7 million children have an LGBTQ parent<\/a> and approximately 200,000 children are being raised by a same-sex couple in the U.S. alone.<\/div>\n
\n\t\u2014Criticized<\/a> women in the military and spread outdated notions of gender norms while targeting transgender troops, saying, \u201cWhile China\u2019s military becomes more masculine as it\u2019s assembled the world\u2019s largest navy, our military needs to become, as Joe Biden says, more feminine\u2014whatever \u2018feminine\u2019 means anymore, since men and women no longer exist.\u201d <\/div>\n

\u2014Spent two nights of his show criticizing<\/a> a New York Times<\/em> internet culture reporter for speaking out about trolls targeting her online, leading to additional online harassment. The International Women\u2019s Media Foundation says a 2018 survey found<\/a> that 63% of female journalists said they\u2019d been threatened or harassed online. Of those who said they\u2019d been harassed, 40% said they avoided reporting certain stories because of it.<\/p>\n

\u2014Called Julia Beck, <\/a>who was removed from Baltimore’s LGBTQ Commission after repeatedly making transphobic comments and misgendering transgender people, \u201cbrave\u201d for making those statements. Beck claimed, without evidence, that transgender women \u201cput every woman and girl at risk of male violence,\u201d and that the \u201cT\u201d in the LGBTQ acronym \u201cis not based in biological reality. In fact, I would argue it\u2019s opposed to biological reality,\u201d and that \u201cmen are taking women’s scholarships, titles, and this is a problem.\u201d Carlson did not dispute Beck’s claims. <\/p>\n

\u2014Repeatedly<\/a> hosts anti-transgender activists to repeat false claims about trans girls in sports, including American Principles Project’s Terry Schilling<\/a>, who fabricated text messages during the 2020 campaign and created false ads about trans youth that were pulled from Facebook for violating community standards. On Carlson’s show, Schilling confused<\/a> trans identities without clarification from Carlson, claiming trans boys want to compete in school sports against cisgender girls (trans boys actually want to participate with other boys) as he disparages transgender youth for wanting to be included with their peers in school athletics.<\/p>\n

\u2014Bragged about beating up a gay man<\/a> when he was in high school.<\/p>\n

\u2014Verbally attacked and misgendered an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> for having a nonbinary flag in their Twitter bio.<\/p>\n

\u2014Described transgender children as \u201cgrotesque\u201d<\/a> and insisted without evidence about a \u201cnationwide epidemic\u201d in which parents force their children to transition. Research<\/a> shows transgender children as young as three begin to recognize their gender identity is different than their sex assigned at birth, and reveal themselves to their parents. Trans youth are far less likely<\/a> to consider suicide when their pronouns and names are accepted.<\/p>\n

\u2014Said the civil rights of transgender people is of no interest to working-class people<\/a>: \u201cBut it does seem like a boutique issue of particular concern to people from certain ZIP codes, income levels, education levels. I mean, it\u2019s\u2014it\u2019s kind of an issue for rich people, is it not?\u201d Trans people disproportionately face high rates of poverty<\/a>, limited job opportunities and housing insecurity, worsened by the discrimination they face in everyday life and lack of legal protections.<\/p>\n

\u2014Refused to apologize for using the slur \u201cfaggot\u201d on air after audio clips resurfaced years later.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2014Insulted transgender professor and Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund executive director Jillian Weiss<\/a> on his show, saying he could claim to be a woman the \u201ctomorrow,\u201d made unsubstantiated claims about a multibillion-dollar gender-specific program, and said of trans people, \u201cI\u2019m saying don\u2019t give $11 billion of way to people who are faking.\u201d<\/p>\n
